Prof. Mekhilef highlighted that the Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a promising technology to replace the old centralized solar inverters in large-scale PV farms that provide high modularity, scalability, flexibility, and efficiency with high internal power flow, fault tolerance, and flexible operation and maintenance. These unique features can be utilized to form the next generation of solar inverters, which can deliver resilient, efficient, and advanced grid services.
